Rising along the Kenya–Uganda border, Mount Elgon is an extinct volcano with the largest caldera in East Africa and breathtaking landscapes ranging from thick montane forest to high-altitude moorland.

  • Morning briefing and registration at Kapkuro Gate (Endebess).Trek through the dense montane forest teeming with monkeys, birds, and forest antelope.
  • Stop at Endebess Bluff (2,563 m) for panoramic views of the plains below.Continue climbing toward Tutum Cave Camp, a natural volcanic cave that offers a safe and unique overnight camping spot. Settle in for dinner and a night under the stars.
  • Overnight: Tutum Cave Camp (approx. 3,200 m).
  • Meals: Lunch & Dinner.
  • Distance:18–20 km round trip | Hiking Time: 7–8 hours.

  • Early morning summit push toward Koitoboss Peak, passing through moorland vegetation with giant lobelias and heathers.
  • Reach the summit for stunning views of the Mount Elgon caldera, Ugandan highlands, and the Trans Nzoia plains.
  • Descend back via Tutum Cave to Kapkuro Gate.End of trek and transfer to Kitale for departure or overnight stay.
