The Piswa Trail is known for its gentle gradient, rich biodiversity, and spectacular scenery — offering trekkers panoramic views of Mount Kadam, the Karamoja plains, and the Caldera. It is the longest but least steep route up Mount Elgon, making it ideal for hikers who enjoy a gradual climb with time to appreciate the environment.   • Starting Point: Kapkwata Village (approx. 2,190m).
  • Summit Point: Wagagai Peak (4,321m).
  • Ending Point: Often descends via the Sasa Trail to Budadiri or returns to Kapkwata, depending on itinerary.

  • Meet your Finding Paradise Tours Limited guide in Mbale or Sipi Falls, then transfer to Piswa Gate, the starting point of your trek. After park registration, begin a gentle hike through farmlands and montane forest, home to colobus monkeys, turacos, and hornbills.
  • You’ll gradually ascend to Piswa Camp, located in a tranquil clearing surrounded by bamboo forest.Enjoy dinner prepared by your mountain chef under the stars.
  • Overnight: Piswa Camp.

  • After breakfast, the trail continues through lush bamboo and montane vegetation, with occasional clearings offering panoramic views of Mount Kadam and the Karamoja plains below. Keep your camera ready — this section is great for birdwatching and botany lovers, as you’ll spot giant lobelias, groundsels, and rare orchids.
  • Arrive at Hunter’s Cave Camp, a unique site named after an ancient cave once used by hunters. Enjoy a warm dinner and watch the sunset fade over the plains.

  • Take in breathtaking views stretching into Kenya and the sweeping landscapes below. After a short break, descend to Mude Cave Camp for overnight — a serene site surrounded by highland vegetation.
  • Overnight: Mude Cave Camp.

  • Descend through bamboo forest and heather zones to Sasa River Camp. Enjoy the changing landscapes, listen to birdsong, and take photos of the misty valleys. This is a relaxing day after your summit adventure — ideal for unwinding and reflecting.

  • Today’s descent takes you through Bagisu farmlands, banana plantations, and coffee gardens, with a chance to interact with local farmers. Reach Budadiri Gate, where you’ll receive your Mount Elgon Summit Certificate before transferring back to Mbale or Sipi Falls.
